Miniature / Warhammer Age of Sigmar

Awlrach
the Drowner.

A finished miniature built around cold spectral blues, weathered wood, bone and a few warmer accents.

01 / The piece

One miniature, a lot going on.

The sculpt already has a lot of movement in it: a wrecked boat, trailing cloth, chains, bones and spirits rising around the whole thing. The finished paint scheme keeps most of that movement in a cold range of blue and cyan, while the boat, bone and metal give the centre of the model something more solid to sit against.

The small green, purple and warm metallic details break up the colder palette without taking over. It is exactly the kind of miniature I like painting: busy enough that there is always another small area to work on, but still readable as one piece when you step back from it.

02 / How this one happened

Painted by the sea.

I painted Awlrach while on holiday by the sea. The choice was mostly thematic - I wanted something tied to boats, the ocean and the general maritime vibe, so he felt like an obvious pick. The place I painted him ended up becoming part of how I remember the miniature itself.

03 / A bit of context

Who is Awlrach?

Awlrach the Drowner is a Nighthaunt character from Warhammer Age of Sigmar. In life he was a ferryman who murdered the people he was meant to carry; in death, Nagash condemned him to ferry spirits wherever the Lord of Death needs them. The boat is not just scenery - it is the whole idea of the character.
